Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was airlifted to South Africa on Saturday after he experienced what has been described as a “medical emergency”. The Vice President is reported to have been airlifted to the “World Famous and World Class” Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town.

This is the second time in less than four months that the former General has gone for treatment in South Africa. In October both Chiwenga and his wife Marry were taken to South Africa for treatment. Presidential spokesperson George Charamba later claimed that Chiwenga was suffering from exhaustion as well as injuries sustained during the Second Chimurenga war of liberation almost 40 years ago. Chiwenga and his wife are both reported to be suffering from a disease which causes their skin to lose pigmentation which the General called “nhuta”.

The government is yet to release a statement on Chiwenga’s latest travels.
