Zanu-PF activist and social media personality, Acie Lumumba, has said that Zimbabweans should brace themselves for a new local currency which will be coming later on this month. This follows revelations from former Finance Minister Tendai Biti that the government will be re-introducing a new local currency this month. Biti criticised the move saying that the currency is not being backed by anything and will quickly lose value.
Lumumba, on the other hand, said that the government is working on securing reserves to back the currency. Writing on social media, Lumumba said,
I can confirm its true! New local currency on the way, there is a condition of securing reserves in place but I can confirm to you. It’s coming. Prepare yourself, don’t panic. At best they will delay, most likely not. Let’s wait for official comms.

Lumumba, real name, Lumumba William Gerald Mutumanje, has built up quite a following in the past few years after he made a series of Facebook Live videos in which he seemed to accurately predict political events before they occured. Lumumba was initially dismissed as a loudmouth who was seeking political relevancy until he made a video in which he “predicted” that president Robert Mugabe would not be in power in 48 hours time before the military launched Operation Restore Legacy. During President Emmerson’s Mnangagwa’s inauguration, Lumumba also revealed that Kembo Mohadi was going to be appointed as Vice President, long before Mnangagwa had chosen his cabinet or his deputies.
